Autodesk Forge - Uber of CAD

I love Uber. The full reasons why I would be a loyal customer of Uber are mentioned here . It's a lengthy write-up (you have been warned!), but you get the gist of how grateful I am for Uber. The world is shifting towards this Uber model quite fast. Choose it, rent it, use it, and pay only for the actual time you use it. What an idea! You don't have to own things, objects, or services that will be used for just a fraction of time and will sit duck otherwise. Autodesk was one of the first engineering software companies that realized the power of this rent-and-leave model. They have come up with their own platform - Autodesk Forge which exactly works like an Uber. Well, I am oversimplifying, but stay with me. Autodesk Forge is a cloud service that contains almost all Autodesk CAD applications - AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit running on the servers. As a user, if you want something as simple as changing logos in the DWG files, you just call a few APIs and get it done in the cloud.

Google Vision AutoML - AI for everyone

A few years ago, if anyone had asked me that they had a requirement of identifying objects from the photographs, I would have probably thought of computer vision to accomplish that. The accuracy of the result would be highly dependent on the image quality, orientation, and presence of other objects in the picture. I would have thought of building a complete dataset of the possible combinations and it would have taken me weeks to even get started on something like OpenCV. The Technology Well, Google seems to have understood the pain behind writing an application from scratch for the identification and classification of images. While looking for a solution for the image classification problem, I came across Google's Cloud Vision - A web service Google has developed for this particular problem. It's a set of simple REST APIs which users can use to check what's in the image. Interestingly, they have provided a demo application on Google Cloud's homepage. All you have to do

- http://alspensieve.blogspot.com/2012

Mail To Team on International Yoga Day

Today seemed like a good day to share a thought with you all. I once went out with few friends for a dinner. We were having a nice time. One of the friends mentioned that he wasn't really happy about how his manager treated him. He said that he was not working at his full capacity and was only putting in 30%-40% work because he wanted to make a point. I wasn't sure how to react to that. This strategy might be useful if you are doing manual labor with no prospects of growth. However, in our case, as engineers and analysts, we are literally surrounded by opportunities and growth potential. Each hour we have can be invested in learning and improving skills. We have degrees that are recognized worldwide. He was literally modulating his efforts to punish someone in his imagination. That can serve no purpose other than sabotaging his own growth. So should he just tolerate his manager and keep working at his best? I would say that he should take efforts to articulate his feelings, let

Corona days and Plasma

It's 16th April 2021. We are probably in the peak days of the Covid-19 second wave. Last week my uncle was diagnosed with Covid-19 and he was shifted to a Covid hospital near my cousin's home. The hospital was small and in the next few days, we had to take him to a slightly bigger hospital for a ventilator bed because his condition worsened. The trouble we had to go through getting a ventilator bed and Remdesivir injection could not be explained in a single post. I had never experienced such a situation in my life nor did I imagine that this could happen in my city - Pune. The purpose of this post is about making people aware of getting Plasma. The doctors told us that my uncle would need Plasma for further treatment. His blood group is O+.  For Covid patients, it is not enough to have any Plasma. It has to come from a patient with Covid-19 antibodies. Meaning the donor himself must have been cured of Covid-19 at least before 28 days but not before 4 months. You can imagine the

This email chain is the result of some bright students seeking advice from me back in 2015. The guy wanted the Computer Science branch in IITs but fell short by few marks to secure a seat. It was amusing to see someone so successful pondering over the best of the best.  I remember my admission days, mostly I was happy that I got an engineering seat in a college in Pune; IITs were a far-fetched dream. I hope for someone this conversation will be useful. What do you think? Let me know in the comments. 1st Email - Hi, My brother plans to join NIT Surathkal computer engineering. Can you please guide us on the future plan? 1.How much difference is there for admissions to foreign colleges for MS between IITs and top NITs? 2.Is it true that IITias have the upper hand in it? 3.He should take a gap of one year and gives the IIT entrance exam again? Thanks, My Reply #1 Hi, NIT Surathkal is definitely a good college. Considering your brother's capabilities, he should have gotten into IITs. Sa
