The Wroclaw Experience

इमेज
What is the review on the Wroclaw University of Technology Poland for Indian students? I went to Wroclaw to get the European Experience. I had the experience of working as a software professional for 8 years before I moved to Wroclaw.  I have a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and took a course in Automotive Engineering at the Wroclaw University Of Technology in 2015. I will be blatantly honest here. If you are an Indian student with no prior work experience and choose to go to Poland just because you didn't get admission to a German University, please don't go to Poland. If the German Universities have assessed you to be unfit for a program, there are mighty chances that you are unfit for a program in any Polish university. There could be exceptions, but please, do not kid yourself. Education in Wroclaw is not easy. Just because you got admission easily doesn't make the rest of the education easy. I had to study hard to pass many of the subjects. It was not ...

Autodesk Forge - Uber of CAD

इमेज
I love Uber. The full reasons why I would be a loyal customer of Uber are mentioned here . It's a lengthy write-up (you have been warned!), but you get the gist of how grateful I am for Uber. The world is shifting towards this Uber model quite fast. Choose it, rent it, use it, and pay only for the actual time you use it. What an idea! You don't have to own things, objects, or services that will be used for just a fraction of time and will sit duck otherwise. Autodesk was one of the first engineering software companies that realized the power of this rent-and-leave model. They have come up with their own platform - Autodesk Forge which exactly works like an Uber. Well, I am oversimplifying, but stay with me. Autodesk Forge is a cloud service that contains almost all Autodesk CAD applications - AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit running on the servers. As a user, if you want something as simple as changing logos in the DWG files, you just call a few APIs and get it done in the cloud. ...

Google Vision AutoML - AI for everyone

इमेज
A few years ago, if anyone had asked me that they had a requirement of identifying objects from the photographs, I would have probably thought of computer vision to accomplish that. The accuracy of the result would be highly dependent on the image quality, orientation, and presence of other objects in the picture. I would have thought of building a complete dataset of the possible combinations and it would have taken me weeks to even get started on something like OpenCV. The Technology Well, Google seems to have understood the pain behind writing an application from scratch for the identification and classification of images. While looking for a solution for the image classification problem, I came across Google's Cloud Vision - A web service Google has developed for this particular problem. It's a set of simple REST APIs which users can use to check what's in the image. Interestingly, they have provided a demo application on Google Cloud's homepage. All you have to do...

Mail To Team on International Yoga Day

इमेज
Today seemed like a good day to share a thought with you all. I once went out with few friends for a dinner. We were having a nice time. One of the friends mentioned that he wasn't really happy about how his manager treated him. He said that he was not working at his full capacity and was only putting in 30%-40% work because he wanted to make a point. I wasn't sure how to react to that. This strategy might be useful if you are doing manual labor with no prospects of growth. However, in our case, as engineers and analysts, we are literally surrounded by opportunities and growth potential. Each hour we have can be invested in learning and improving skills. We have degrees that are recognized worldwide. He was literally modulating his efforts to punish someone in his imagination. That can serve no purpose other than sabotaging his own growth. So should he just tolerate his manager and keep working at his best? I would say that he should take efforts to articulate his feelings, let...

Corona days and Plasma

इमेज
It's 16th April 2021. We are probably in the peak days of the Covid-19 second wave. Last week my uncle was diagnosed with Covid-19 and he was shifted to a Covid hospital near my cousin's home. The hospital was small and in the next few days, we had to take him to a slightly bigger hospital for a ventilator bed because his condition worsened. The trouble we had to go through getting a ventilator bed and Remdesivir injection could not be explained in a single post. I had never experienced such a situation in my life nor did I imagine that this could happen in my city - Pune. The purpose of this post is about making people aware of getting Plasma. The doctors told us that my uncle would need Plasma for further treatment. His blood group is O+.  For Covid patients, it is not enough to have any Plasma. It has to come from a patient with Covid-19 antibodies. Meaning the donor himself must have been cured of Covid-19 at least before 28 days but not before 4 months. You can imagine the...

First World problem 🙂

This email chain is the result of some bright students seeking advice from me back in 2015. The guy wanted the Computer Science branch in IITs but fell short by few marks to secure a seat. It was amusing to see someone so successful pondering over the best of the best.  I remember my admission days, mostly I was happy that I got an engineering seat in a college in Pune; IITs were a far-fetched dream. I hope for someone this conversation will be useful. What do you think? Let me know in the comments. 1st Email - Hi, My brother plans to join NIT Surathkal computer engineering. Can you please guide us on the future plan? 1.How much difference is there for admissions to foreign colleges for MS between IITs and top NITs? 2.Is it true that IITias have the upper hand in it? 3.He should take a gap of one year and gives the IIT entrance exam again? Thanks, My Reply #1 Hi, NIT Surathkal is definitely a good college. Considering your brother's capabilities, he should have gotten into IITs. Sa...

The ruthless shrink we all need

इमेज
Which supporting character stole the scene every time they appeared? Jane Lynch. There are very few TV series fans who haven’t watched Two and a Half Men. The series was a brilliant comedy until Charlie Sheen had his act together. I believe the series started to deteriorate well before his meltdown, somewhere around season 3. However, I must admit that immersing myself in the humor, memorable quips, and performances of the unforgettable actors was one of life's joys. However, had it not been for the sheer brilliance of Jane Lynch, I would have rated the series 50% lower. This realization came to me in retrospect because whenever I feel like rewatching anything related to Two and a Half Men, I instinctively search for those scenes on YouTube, specifically "when Charlie goes to the shrink." Jane Lynch portrayed the character to perfection, breathing life into the therapist. Her hippie wardrobe became an integral part of the character, and the dialogues were a treat. The sar...

The Puzzle In Tumbbad

इमेज
What is special about the movie Tumbbad? Warning: Spoilers ahead - a crucial puzzle piece. I had the opportunity to watch Tumbbad twice at the cinema, and it has undoubtedly become one of my top 5 favorite movies. I immediately wrote about it on my blog, recognizing its rightful place as a cult classic. Besides its exceptional cinematography, captivating story, mesmerizing music, and brilliant acting, what fascinated me the most was that Tumbbad presented its audience with a puzzle to solve. The filmmakers didn't explicitly explain every aspect of the script, trusting the viewers to fill in the details themselves, and it worked wonderfully. For a long time, I pondered over a particular puzzle: If the curse was eternal, how was death possible? In a way, the death of Vinayak's grandmother offered her redemption from the curse. Or did it? No, the answer lies within the movie itself. Despite Vinayak killing his grandmother after she revealed the secret of harvesting gold from Hasta...

Do I Support Asaduddin Owaisi

इमेज
Is there any Hindu who supports Asaduddin Owaisi? I am not a political commenter. My political views are inclined towards BJP. Having said that, I support Asaduddin Owaisi. As a usual citizen of this country, it is not too difficult for me to understand that there is no black and white when it comes to almost anything in this world. When I say that I don’t support someone, the immediate question is, what is the option? To give you an example, if someone asks you, if you would like to eat Oranges, you cannot just say no and ask for Apples instead. You ask what is the option. If the option is potatoes, better stay with the Oranges. Asaduddin Owaisi is that Orange. We have got to admit that there are much worse politicians than him. Here, I am not even concerned about the religion of the other politicians. If I have to choose between say Nitin Gadkari and Asaduddin Owaisi, I would go with Nitin Gadkari. If the other candidate is Digvijay Singh, I would vote for Asaduddin Owaisi without b...

The art of Cartoons

इमेज
What is something that needs to be said? Answered On Quora.Com October 22, 2017 Indian kids should stop watching crap like Chhota Bheem, Motu Patlu etc. As a person who grew up in the nineties, watching Justice league, Johny Quest, Swat Kats, Dexter’s laboratory on Cartoon Network, it is painful to watch the children of this generation wasting their brains on these cheesy cartoons such as Chhota Bheem. Firstly, these Indian cartoons have really bad artistic quality. Crappy characters, sloppy animation, reuse of frames. Secondly, there is complete lack of imagination on the storyline front. I was watching these cartoons along with my niece and nephew once and was completely taken aback by the lack of passion for the art. These cartoons scream mediocrity. It totally seem like someone with Kirana shop started with the idea of making shitty cartoons for children to en-cash the market with total disregard for the art. They say that next generation is smarter than the previous one. Seeing th...

An evening at the feet of Sardar - Statue of Unity

इमेज
Following is my answer to the question - Did-the-Statue-of-Unity-in-India-fail ? On Quora.com, I had planned to write a separate blog post, but it's not complete yet. Until then, this will serve as a part of the memoir of my amazing trip. ---- I visited the place on a Friday in February 2019, traveling from Baroda around 5 PM. There were two types of tickets available. The first type allowed you to visit the facility and go up to the statue's feet, while the second type granted access to the observation deck. With the latter ticket, one could take the elevator and reach the statue's chest where the viewing gallery is located. The gallery ticket cost Rs. 350, as opposed to the regular Rs. 120. Guess what? They were sold out on weekdays. I was informed that only a limited number of tickets are sold for the viewing gallery, approximately 7,000 per day or so. Go figure! The Statue of Unity (SoU) is a massive success. Don't be swayed by the words of naysayers. They find ...

Tanhaji and the "other" film

इमेज
Following article is my answer on Quora to respond to the question -  Is the failure of Chhapak and the success of Tanhaji a reflection of the Indian population’s mindset towards Hindutva and liberalism? I don't really understand why the fuss. Tanhaji and Chhapaak are two different genres. Tanhaji is designed to be an entertainer. 3D format, large sets, based on the history which is already a celebrated pride in Maharashtra. Being a Marathi I was eager to watch Tanhaji the point Ajay Devgan released its poster a couple of years ago. It was bound to be a success unless the creators absolutely wanted to screw it. I am not undermining the PR campaigns that created the buzz for the movie right before its release. Larger than life trailers, interviews of leads on all the correct mediums, emotional call to the Marathi audience.. they just checked all the right boxes. Once the film was released and people knew that it's a good movie, it was just a waiting game if it w...
